I was able to attend this year’s Bacon and Beer Classic at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Although the registration price seemed a bit high, I thought that the amount of beer and food you could get multiple times could even out that cost. I probably ate 12 Bacon-Wrapped Oreo Cookies and at least half a dozen of the pricey fancy shmancy Pork Belly from the expensive in-house Michael Mina Bourbon Steak restaurant. There was a lot of local food talent being represented.
There were a ton of breweries being represented and surprisingly a lot of smaller local breweries like Carneros, Sonoma Springs, Diving Dog, etc., all breweries I found out about at this festival. There were also a lot of ciders represented, but I did not have enough time to get to them. I noticed one Wine table, which was a cool offering if for some reason a wine drinker was here, or if you like to mix. A majority of the big California breweries were represented. If you’re a self-professed beer nerd graduate from the Google Community College Online Campus, then, like me, you would probably be disappointed if you had any major questions about most of the beers/breweries represented as their beer were being poured by volunteers or irritated sales representatives.
Though the major theme was Bacon and Beer, the festival delivered. I look forward to making this a yearly tradition.
